Three Legged Bulldogs

Would like to know how other three legged bulldogs are doing that have lost their back leg.   Any problems that you have had and how long has the recovery been.    I find that Rocky likes to bark more than before whether it is just a thing he has started to get more attention once we leave the room.

I took him for a ten minute walk in the park yesterday.  He did quite well.  Lots of rest stops but he enjoyed sniffing the air.   It was a beautiful day nice and warm.

  1. Not a bulldog, but my mastiff is a rear leg amp. She took a little longer to get her energy back than some of the petite breeds, but she’s doing well. Yes, she became more vocal and more upset when we left the room after surgery. She’s getting her confidence back and isn’t as worried now. There’s a lot of talk on this site about finding the ‘new normal’. There’s a lot of the old, familiar that keeps coming back through recovery, but it’s true that ‘new normals’ develop as well.

    Wishing you uneventful, continued healing.

  2. That’s perfect. Shorter walks are best right now. He will get strong, just give it time and be dilligent about monitoring his exercising and adding core-strengthening activities into his routine.

  3. He never took long walks before because he is a bulldog. He has a nice yard to do his chores in so it will be a day to day exercise in his level of activity. He has his other bulldog in the house to keep him company. It has been almost two months since surgery. The surgery has healed up nicely. Will post some pictures soon.
